Diane’s Story

Date

*Diane called LaVie. Every word she uttered was forced and out of breath, as if the news she just got hit with had jolted her to her core. She explained that she took a pregnancy test that morning and it was positive. As she spoke on the phone, the cold silence in between her sentences spoke a thousand words and none of them were positive. Diane talked with the receptionist and started to realize that she could be several months pregnant. Once she made this realization, her voice quivered as she fought back the tears and said, “Oh my gosh”.  Those words held the weight of a thousand pounds. You see, Dawn just made the connection in her head.  She was not in a relationship and unsure who the father was.  She was considering abortion but now was realizing what that could look like with potentially being three or more months pregnant.

The same day that she called, Diane walked into LaVie carrying the same weight that was felt on the phone. When the news of Diane’s pregnancy was verified, her wailing cries were heard throughout the clinic. She continued to sob as she watched her second trimester baby bounce around on the screen. The combination of watching that sweet little one and all the resources and information given to her at her appointment started to give Diane the courage and strength to realize she CAN do this and, even though it was a shock, her heart started to melt.  It was as if a light with a soft, warm glow had gently been turned on.  Diane walked in feeling scared and alone. When she walked out, it was as if the growing pregnancy in her womb was now growing in her heart.  She was still in shock but there was a change in her demeanor as she started to welcome this new chapter in her story.  The instantaneous love of a mother had been born!
